May Newsletter - Reflect, Reset, Reframe: Learning everyday.

By Louise B

As we’ve learnt over the past month at Ultimately Uni, reflection looks different for everyone. It can be messy, powerful, subtle, or transformative - but it’s always personal. Everyone has their own story, shaped by different experiences, challenges, and wins.

For me, I’ve found that reflection is just as valuable when I’m celebrating success, as it is when I’m learning from setbacks. Like we explored in our growth spotlight in March, failure isn’t the end - it’s a space to reframe your mindset, reset your approach, and ask yourself the tough but constructive questions:

What led me here?

What would I change about my approach?

Am I still aligned with my goals?

How can I improve?

A pivot doesn’t always come from failure - success can be a trigger for change too. But I want to share something personal: I’ve got an exam re-sit in August. And honestly, I don’t view it as a failure. I see it as an opportunity - a space to pause and ask:

What went wrong the first time?

How can I better organise my time?

Have I truly made use of all the support and resources available to me?

That’s the beauty of reflection. It’s not about blame, it’s about growth. And reflection doesn’t have to be a solo process either. Over the past two weeks, we’ve been lucky to hear from Adnan, Eliana, and Chloe, each sharing what they’ve learned from their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year journeys. Their honesty and insights reminded us that growth isn’t linear, and no one has it all figured out - but by listening to each other, we realise we’re not alone.

So wherever you are in your journey - whether you're thriving, treading water, or pausing to recalibrate - I hope you give yourself the space to reflect. Take what you’ve learnt, celebrate how far you’ve come, and keep building forward.

Keep sharing, keep growing - and as always, we’re here for the ride with you.

Next month’s theme will be an insight into employability and looking at skills you will need professionally to aid your success!

Keep being Ultimately You!
